Artist Statement

Hi!  I am a fine art photographer who finds expression in “painterly” landscapes, minimalist images, and candid portraits, especially people of different cultures.  While I enjoy capturing vivid color images, the ones that resonate the most with me are more atmospheric, moodier, softer images whether in subdued colors or black and white.  I have been fortunate to travel and, when I do, I am moved by the local people and their culture, and the collection of their candid portraits are among my favorites.  I enjoy putting people at ease, connecting with them through the lens, and conveying their story to you.

“Sherfy Farm” won a first place in photography in 2022 at the Historic Gettysburg Adams County Barn Art contest, and Grandfather Sunrise 2.0 was in the Glen Echo Park Labor Day Art Show.  Both images sold at those respective shows.  Previously, my artistic images have been accepted in the 2020 Delaplaine National Juried Exhibit, Frederick, MD, and both the 2020 Adams County Arts Council, PA (exhibited June 2021) and the Frederick Camera Clique juried exhibits.  My photographs have also been accepted in past Adams County Arts Council juried exhibits and various shows, the Delaplaine and NOMA galleries in Frederick, MD, the Ragged Edge, Gettysburg, PA., and the Waterford Fair, VA.

I live in an historic stone house on Eden Farm.  Eden was originally my grandfather’s middle name and it is now a four generation family name.  For me, the name evokes family and wonderful scenery so it was a fitting name for my photography studio.  The farm is in a beautiful valley in Fairfield, Pennsylvania, near Gettysburg.  Some of my favorite images depict the beauty of this lovely setting.  I am also a member of the Foothills Artists, a wonderful group of talented artists whose homes and studios are in the Fairfield-Cashtown area of southern Adams County, PA.  Our group normally hosts an open studio or home tour in November each year (see the website to the right for current information).  I am a member of Frederick Camera Clique and actively involved with my art throughout the region.
